Countdown to 2025 - #4 - The MCU Multiverse versus The Kang Dynasty (and my Top 3 MCU movies)

Countdown + Movie Review + Series Review

In Marvel MCU terms there is little difference between alternate timelines and alternate universes, so I'll group them together.

And - even if you dislike Jonathan Majors - there are some multiverse installments worth watching.

Countdown to 2025 - #5 - Disney+ - The Marvels (and my Top 3 of how humanity will fail)

CountdownMovies Review + Disney+

The preceding show Ms Marvel isn’t that bad, except for an overly short season. This one though… yeah, this one didn’t work. It’s a pity because it had some promising elements, but the end result is a hasty mess.

The verdict? Skip it.

Disney+ - DeadPool & Wolverine (2024)

Movie Review + Disney+

Largely entertaining, but not as good as the previous two Deadpool movies. The ending was a bit of a cop-out (with the typical super villain about to destroy the world) and I found the second half of the movie somewhat predictable and boring.

Though it is entertaining...

Disney+ - Agatha All Along

Series Review + Disney+

There will never be a season 2. But - in a way - Agatha All Along is a kind of season 2, as it is a clear sequel to Wandavision.

And, to immediately get to the point, it's great!

Disney+ - Miss Marvel / Moon Knight / She Hulk

Series Review

Things are never ever good enough. My god, can people complain!

Yeah, I know. I do as well. It’s only human. But the amount of negativity thrown at the Marvel shows for ‘not being true to the comics’, ‘poor CGI’, ‘discriminating’ and what not… my god! Is there even a way to do things right?!? We’re talking about television series, at smaller budgets, based on fantasy comics… and not everything has to be politically correct!

Netflix - Warrior Nun - Season 2

Series Review

Oh dear. Season 1 was promising, and had some interesting plotlines. An interesting ending. Lots of possibilities for a great season 2.

And then season 2 actually happened.

Netflix - The Imperfects

Series Review

Just a single season, YA, and a bit tight on budget, yet quite promising.

Unfortunately, there won't be a second season. I personally think it deserved one, but I can live with it the way it is.

HBO Max - Peacemaker

Series Review

Peacemaker is completely silly, rude, irreverent, immature, and yet it’s fun. If you like foul-mouthed superhero stuff like Deadpool, then this is your thing.

John Cena stars as Peacemaker, reprising his role from The Suicide Squad.

Disney+ - Hawkeye

Series Review

Disney has a lot of new Marvel series, and keeps adding to them. There’s Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If, and now Hawkeye.

Hawkeye received a somewhat mixed reception, but I liked it, although it had two problems: the ending was a bit rushed, and Kingpin seemed to be fully out of character, and surely lacking style. A straw hat? On Kingpin?!? Nah.

Netflix - Spiderman - No Way Home

Movie Review

Maybe it's formally not part of the MCU (as in being more of a Sony than a Marvel property) but hey, it fits nicely, and Doctor Strange does a good job making things worse.

The movie is enjoyable if a little forgettable. Tom Holland is great, as usual. I'm still not convinced by Zendaya (a little overhyped) but the best participants in this movie are the faces of old...

Andrew Seiple - Dire Saga 0 - Fate

Book Review.

A short story featuring Dire, in line with Dire Born. That one's better though...

Push (2009)... and a little Calvin & Hobbes

Movie Review

Push and Jumper... In case I did not mention these two before (where are my old TellTales, humpf)... I think both movies deserve a little more credit than they got, especially Push was pretty much ignored, and Jumper could have been the start of a great franchise.

Netflix - Bloodshot (2020)

Movie Review

Is Vin Diesel salty because he's just a voice in the biggest Marvel / Superhero series? Perhaps. Let's hope he keeps voicing Groot because this superhero movie Bloodshot certainly isn't worth your while, unless you like a. Vin Diesel, b. a perfect Vin Diesel, c. an unstoppable Vin Diesel, and d. Vin Diesel for president.

Netflix - Warrior Nun - Season 1 (2020..2022)

Series Review

Okay, a guilty pleasure. But anything Buffy-like easily piques my interest. Haven’t read the comics but I liked the show. Dead teen gets another lease on life when a relic gets implanted in her back. And yet it is entertaining in a Buffy kind of way.

Batman Begins / The Dark Knight

Movie Review

I'm one of those infidels who claims the original Batman movie was way, way better than the Nolan vehicles. And it's all thanks to Jack.

Blade - TV series

Series Review

Most of the times I remember a book, movie or series. Perhaps not in details, but at least in some way.

Browsing through my old Dapper installments I found a reference to a television series called Blade. 13 years ago, 2007. And I cannot remember a single thing of it...

But... Here is what I wrote at the time...

Cloak & Dagger - Season 1

Series Review

I've read some Cloak & Dagger comics in the past. With the current superhero craze there was no way Cloak & Dagger wouldn't be turned into some small screen series.

Netflix - The Umbrella Academy

Review.

I’m getting a little superhero- tired. The Umbrella Academy is, fortunately, quirky enough to stay enjoyable. All superheroes involved are adopted (?) gifted kids and part of a grand dysfunctional family.

Andrew Seiple - Dire 1 - Dire Born

Review.

What to make of this one... a fresh take on the superhero / super-villain trope, with a villain who might just be a hero. Or not.

Heroes

Review.

With Heroes and Heroes Reborn finished it is time to look back.

What did I think of Heroes when it surfaced, back in 2007?

(Comments taken from older installments of Dapper...)
