Lindsay Buroker - Dragon Blood Omnibus

Audiobook Review.

There's a whole subset of romance novels in fantasy settings, which all seem to follow a certain pattern. This is one of those.

Sometimes they stand out (Rachel Aaron's DFZ series, for example) and sometimes they are 'pulpish' (like this one). Great if it's your thing, but Lindsay Buroker can do better, as she proved with her Dark Currents series.

Titles

Also known / sold as 'The dragon Blood Collection - Books 1-3', which is a little confusing... as there's also an 'omnibus' of the first three books. Whatever...

1. Balanced on the Blade's Edge
2. Deathmaker
3. Blood Charged
4. Patterns in the Dark
5. The Blade's Memory
5.5 Under the Ice Blades
6. Raptor
7. Soulblade
8. Oaths

Summary

Mage gets stuck under a mountain, gets saved / protected by a magic sword, regains consciousness a couple of centuries later, to find out magic has largely taken over the world. She falls in love with a dashing pilot (yep, the necessary romantic streak). They have to hide her identity, accidentally free a bunch of dragons, then have to fight those 'ubermighty' beasts.

(Parts of the above sound like her Dark Currents series, I know.)

Verdict

It ain't bad, but we've seen lots of it before. Enjoyable, but nothing shocking, more 'light fantasy with a bit of romance' similar to Helen Harper, Rachal Aaron, Ilona Andrews, & Co.

(If I'm not the target audience, then how the hell did I end up reading these? Well, they were cheap, very cheap...)
