This year, my countdown schedule is a periodic flashback every 5 weeks. It's now February 18, and it's time to look back on the first part of 2025.
First of all, I'm happy Trump hasn't blown up the world yet. He's busily destroying the US, which was expected. I'm just a little baffled by the feeding frenzy as shown by the tech billionaires (Zuckerberg, Musk, you know who). Let's start by feeling sorry for them. Or not?
February 11
Please remember it's February 22 when I wrote this. Only time will tell how far I am off...
Idiots
What was the most searched phrase on Google? (Well, I haven't checked if that was actually the most searched phrase, but in these days where fact checking appears to be optional when it comes to the truth, I didn't even bother. In that I'm not any better than anyone else.)
Can I take my vote back?
No, you can't. You dumb idiots voted for someone who is going to destroy your part of the world, and -given the chance - he's going to do the same to the rest of us. And that's because you didn't understand something.
Less taxes doesn't make your life better.
It's as simple as that. You may think there's more money left for YOU, but that's not what Trump and his cronies are all about. THEY will make more money, by removing any protection you had. It's as simple as that. So yes, you'll get more money, but with any and all protection gone you'll buy crappier products, will lose your health insurance, your kids will grow up and die in a polluted environment, and you're pretty much signing away your rights.
You think that's leftish, stupid reasoning? Well, please explain to me how the following actions will improve YOUR life:
- Dismantle all governmental organizations related to environment. Do you really think companies will monitor themselves?!? They'll poison you in exchange for cash.
- Fire law enforcement and judges who investigated Trump's behavior and alleged crimes. I'm not saying he did anything wrong, but I firmly believe in a trias politica. If you kick out anyone who offers any critique, you're effectively becoming a tyrant. Freedom of speech? Gone...
- Imperialistic behavior. It's all about power and resources, so let's squeeze Ukraine for resources, and let's grab Greenland. Legalities and democracy be damned. You know what? Let's make a deal with the Russians over their invasion of Ukraine, and keep the Ukrainians completely out of any peace negotiations.
- Make schools dumb again. Removing a shared reference and minimal educational level will certainly improve education, right?
...and the list goes on and on.
Game Plan
What's scary is that Trump might actually have a game plan.
1. Distract all internal voices by making a complete mess of the country, and bring all states as close to a civil war as he can, without going all the way.
2. Protect himself and his cronies in every way, by dismantling the legal and law enforcement system and / or replacing all heads with friendly voices. (Creating an oligarchy of big tech money, effectively.)
3. Grab as many resources as possible, by making 'deals'... Russia gets Ukraine, China gets Taiwan, and the US grabs Greenland.
I just hope I completely misunderstand him and his Maga followers, and that he'll make the world a better place to live in. Until then, well, I'm happy to not live in the US.
Enough politics!
This post started with the 'pen in a box' that would indicate it's all about writing (and not about politics). At least I can tell you that I finally (finally!) finished all the editing, and that the book is back again at the editor, who hopefully will get back to me soon. Then it's time to get it publication ready, and release it upon a not-expecting world. So, in the next 'countdown' post I should be able to tell you how I shattered all best-seller records! (Or how I suffered a mental breakdown from disappointing sales 😎)
Summer
Anything else? Yeah... I want to get back to summer, because my MX-5 (Miata) is waiting for me. Top down, fun up... A long road trip might not be possible because I'm (again!) considering changing my job and thus won't have accrued enough days off. But otherwise... gimme' summer!
(A good thing about switching jobs is that I would be able to play D&D again. I've been missing that for the last couple of months...)
Note to self
Don't forget to write something every 40-odd days...
