Netflix - Damsel (2024)

Movie Review

First you see a dragon. Then you're watching some royal intrigues for 35 minutes, and only then the action starts.

Which doesn't make Damsel a complete disaster, but it helps to know what to expect.

Summary

A princess gets sold by her parents (well, traded, but in a way it's all the same) to appease a dragon in a far away land. Did her parents know? Well, you won't find out until the /e/n/d/ middle 😉

Let it suffice to say that Enola Holmes - no wait, I mean Bobby Brown! - doesn't let herself be sacrificed that easily. Halfway the movie turns into an underground battle between the princess and the dragon.

What follows is a cat and mouse game between the damsel and the dragon, which ends in an exchange of truths, and the fiery death of the evil king and queen.

There. That's enough plot, and so fully inadequately told that you'll still enjoy the movie. If you're into straightforward fantasy flicks, that is.

Graphics

Well, it's a Netflix movie, and Googling a little shows the movie costed 70 million or so to make. Keeping it nice and dark probably saved a couple of millions, as does Bobby screaming out her lungs (saves on sound effects 🤣).

Seriously though, the graphics are above the average B-film, and they should be at that price.

The Verdict

Straightforward fantasy flick, cozy and enjoyable, but you'll probably forget it was ever made after a few years. But there are worse ways to spend your evening.
