Cinda Williams Chima - The Seven Realms - The Demon King / The Exiled Queen / ... (2009..2013)

Audiobook Review.

Romance / fantasy, but not overly 'soggy'... most of the time. Still, the core story is good, and that's what it's all about.

I've already reviewed book 1. Books 2, 3 and 4 are in the same style, same vein, same quality. What makes this series interesting is the different take on magic. What's missing is more history on what happened before what happened before this story. Yeah, that's a double before...

Titles

  1. The Demon King
  2. The Exiled Queen
  3. The Gray Wolf Throne
  4. The Crimson Crown

Summary

The country is split up into two warring factions (mages versus mountain dwellers) who both carry their own kind of magic.

A long time ago, the mages nearly destroyed the world, and the mountain dwellers (the 'clans') saved it from breaking. Trouble is brewing, however, and the new top-dog mage is slowly luring the queen into his deadly web. The queen's daughter (the heroine of the story) runs away, gets involved with a local street lord (who has some history of his own), and mayhem ensues.

Narration

Perfect, no issues.

Verdict

Fantasy with a bit of romance. I don't think it was intended as a YA but would in some ways classify as one.

You could do way worse if this is your thing. Go and read.
