Steven Brust - The Phoenix Guards

Review.

In the afterword Brust admits he likes the style of Alexandre Dumas and company

Brust himself called it "a blatant ripoff of The Three Musketeers" but I think he deserves a little more credit than that.

Taltos

Set in the same universe as the Vlad Taltos books, though quite a bit earlier, and proving that the old days of swords and romance (complete with swollen language) are not (completely) over. If you liked the Three Musketeers you might just have some fun with this one.

If you're in desperate need of a good dose of romanticized swashbuckling heroics then why are you reading this blog? Go!

Sequels

There is a direct sequel, as well as a three parter related to this book. The direct sequel 500 Years Later is a good read as well. The other books I haven't read yet.
