Farscape

Series Review / Wallpaper.

Farscape returned! Okay, that's a lie... but I'd love for it to happen.

Say what? Farscape? You didn't even know? What?!? You did not even watch?!?!? You don't even  know what Farscape is?!?

You must be one of those people comforting their Nielsen boxes 😔

Resync Video Subtitles

Datatalk + Subtitles

I bought the original set of Farscape DVDs, only to find out they have no Dutch subtitles. Bummer.

Online I found several Dutch subtitles as .srt files, but the timing was wrong. Here's how to fix subtitle synchronization issues...

Put your favorites in a box, Mister Geek

Column

No matter how you categorize series, movies, books, you will always find examples that do not fit in. That refuse to respect certain borders. That are... different.

Fanfiction

Writing + Column

What is your opinion on fanfiction / fanfiction authors? I don't mind, but I've never written a fan fiction, I once tried (to write) a little Farscape but it just wasn't my thing. (Farscape is, but fanfiction is not.) I prefer to work on original stuff. Does that mean fanfiction is bad?

Can you still find that (SF) movie, or has Enshittification (TM) taken over full force?

Science Fiction

Let's try to watch some SciFi...

Note: this isn't a 'top 10' kind of list. I was just wondering where you could watch them (legally)...

Note that I'm based in The Netherlands, and availability strongly depends on the region you live in...

Countdown to 2023... Why television will never get it right

Countdown + Column

It’s perfectly normal for a series to be cancelled when the ratings drop, and the number of viewers dwindle. It’s all about making money.

But isn't it time for the show-runners to show some respect to their (potential) audience?

Disney+ - Firefly

Series Review.

Joss Whedon delivered another classic, even though it was canceled before its time. It's cowboys and rebels in space, but not exactly...

It only took some out-of-order broadcasting to kill this show. Fortunately it received some well-deserved wrap-up in the form of a movie.

Watch it. Even if you don't like Whedon as a person, his TV shows were (and still are!) great.

Escaflowne

Anime Review.

Ah, romance, romance, a little bit medieval mecha, and more romance... And those weird, weird noses (gotta' watch it to see what I mean).

It's a bit too sweet in spite of the overall story and the... Guymelefs? (Well, the local magical equivalent of mecha, anyway.)

Countdown to 2025 - #9 - Netflix - Orphan Black Echoes - Season 1 (and my Top 3 Television Series)

CountdownSeries Review + Netflix

Perhaps not as good as the original Orphan Black (ignoring the nose-dive and recovery near the end of that show) but still quite interesting. I wasn’t expecting the killing of such an essential character near the end though… Was it to attract new viewers, or the original plan of the creators? Who can tell?

Batman Begins / The Dark Knight

Movie Review

I'm one of those infidels who claims the original Batman movie was way, way better than the Nolan vehicles. And it's all thanks to Jack.

Heroes

Review.

With Heroes and Heroes Reborn finished it is time to look back.

What did I think of Heroes when it surfaced, back in 2007?

(Comments taken from older installments of Dapper...)

Fringe

Series Review

Fringe seemed at first to be another X-files clone. and though there's quite a bit 'episodic' stuff, there's also the kind of... perception shift. We'll move from Mulder / Scully reality-checks, into nutty professor territory.

Great stuff! A definite must watch!

Fortuitous Space Battles

Column.

As you may have noticed I do like (some) military SF, and it’s fine if that borders on not all too realistic Space Opera. However, regardless of the believably of the generic concept I still like to see some consistency. Or at least stick to certain mechanics and principles.
