Fuck HitfFilm Express. Fuck FXHome. Fuck Artlist.

Datatalk

Fuck HitFilm Express.

Fuck FXHome. Fuck Artlist.

Fuck every piece of software that requires online activation.

Because you will be screwed at some later date.

HitFilm Express

If a little buggy, HitFilm Express offered a lot, especially if you bought it with some of the extensions. I did - when it was on sale on Humble Bundle - and got a ton of special effects and other modules, and a pretty decent video editor.

Obviously, that couldn't last. Because what FXHome gaveth, FXHome taketh away.

Well, actually, Artlist bought FXHome, tried to sell its crap to the 6+ million users / clients of FXHome, and subsequently threw all HitFilm Express users under the buss by first turning HitFilm Express into a subscription model, and then killing off the activiation servers all togehter.

So, even if I buy something, it isn't mine...

Fuck you.

Why not buy all the goodwill you can by keeping the registration server online? Or - even better - once you abandon a product just release a patch that will remove the online registration part?

I know there might some limitations to do so, but at least give it a try, and explain to your (former) users why or why not.

We should introduce an obligatory rating for each and every software product, showing its dependencies and if it is still viable once it has reached the autumn of its live... How about an F-minus for Artlist, huh?

Alternatives

I've tried KDEnlive, which is open source and free, and it offers many features similar to my old HitFilm Express, though not everything. Here's my first attempt.

I still have to dabble in DaVinci Resolve, which is another good contender.

I just wished I wouldn't have to...
