Personal Windows 11 Setup

Windows

How I set up my machine...

(This note is pretty much for myself, and I think it actually has some mistakes in it as well...)


Basic install


Windows

1. Install Win11

2. Use MS account

3. Login, install, attach, whatever

4. If you need to activate

- Activation

- Troubleshooter

- Changed hardware


Don't use a pin code

1.  Settings / Accounts / Sign-in Options

2. Under Additional Settings you'll find 'For improved security bla bla'. Switch it OFF

3. Sign out

4. Sign in. You now have the option to sign in with your password. Do that.

5. Back to Settings / Accounts / Sign-in Options

6. Now you can remove the PIN option if you want


Updates and accounts

1. Run updates

2. Create an Admin account

3. Create a user account (E***l)


Google Drive

1. Log into the user account

2. Create folder c:\googledrive

3. Install Google Drive

4. Don't sync anything at first, just install, no local folders

5. Then Preferences / Mirror Files / Folder (?)

6. Wat until the local folder has synced


Portable software

1. Check events, Windows might have flagged some stuff as unwanted

- if so, check history, and allow the threat

2. Create folder c:\software

3. Copy wincmd to c:\software\

4. Start Total Commander

5. Configure Total Commander

6. Check out the c:\googledrive\software folder and copy everything needed

- batch

- utils

- ...

7. Check events, Windows might have flagged some stuff as unwanted

- if so, check history, and allow the threat


Wallpapers for each account

1. Log in

2. Start wallx.exe

3. Change wallpaper

- traffic

- traffic / inverted

- random from folder 

4. Change wallpaper in lock screen settings

- use wallpapers from c:\googledrive\wallpapers\old


Install

1. Check out the c:\googledrive\software folder and copy everything needed

2. Copy required desktop shortcuts from c:\googledrive\desktop_shortcuts to desktop

3. Check out the c:\googledrive\install folder and install everything needed

4. Check out all the desktop links and see if they work


MS Office

1. You can NOT migrate MS Office unless you have a boxed version
