VR.5

Series Review

Outdated. Old fashioned. Geeky, nerdy, cult.

And yet, in some ways, this old one season series is lots of fun. Sidney Bloom is a telecoms technician with a talent that allows her to creep into someone else's mind, entering a kind of 'virtual reality'.

Too Early?

VR.5 aka VR5 aka VR-5 is a scifi show it isn't that realistic, not even when it was broadcasted. One would almost be tempted to call it more 'magical' or 'paranormal' than anything else. The technology shown and used doesn't mean that much.

Back in 1995 the series was ground breaking and too expensive, and was canceled after a single season. Yes, it's clearly dated, but still good in an odd way. Perhaps it was simply ahead of its time... or it was Fox, yet again.

Episode List

Not all episodes were originally broadcasted, and some were initially broadcasted out of order.

1. VR. 5 - Pilot

2. Sisters (unaired by fox)

3. Dr. Strangechild

4. Love and Death

5. 5D

6. Escape

7. Facing the Fire

8. Simon's Choice

9. Send Me an Angel (unaired by Fox)

10. Control Freak

11. The Many Faces of Alex

12. Parallel Lives (unaired by Fox)

13. Reunion

It's very hard to find a decent copy. All you may find are digitized video tapes at doubtful online stores.

Update.

I found a full set on YouTube, broadcasted by what looks like a Russian TV station (?). I immediately grabbed a copy, and the quality is pretty good for a 'YouTube grab'. Unfortunately, I cannot share the link as the ones I grabbed are no longer online.

The Ending

Unfortunately, it's an open ending. Not much has been resolved, and our heroine is stuck in some mind-bending alternate reality. But... it's still worth watching.

Verdict

Dated but good stuff. In spite of the open ending and the way it aged it still is a great, must-watch.
