Rachel Aaron - Heartstriker - Nice dragons finish last / One good dragon deserves another / ...

Review.

So yes, another romance / fantasy title. But in this case the fantasy part is more important than the romance part, so that's fine. And it's a good and fun read, so I'll take it in stride.

Rachel Bach / Rachel Aaron

The author is also known as Rachel Bach for the Paradox series, Scifi with a dash of romance, the romance content similar to Lindsay Buroker's Fallen Empire series, but with a bit more action.

Sparkling start, slow finish

The first three books are mostly roller-coaster stuff. Entertaining light reading, about our world after magic returned. Dragons exist (and they are power hungry and mad as ever), so do spirits, gods, and all kinds of magical critters. Rachel's take on magic is slightly different: there are natural occurring spirits, caused by the lay of the land, or animal based, and there are those created by belief.

The last two books are a bit slow. Too much talk, not enough happening, and more serious than the first three.

I've read this series after reading the (sort of) sequel Minimum Wage Magic. I think that might actually be the best way, as books 4 and 5 are a bit slow, and I mostly continued, driven by the desire to know how the DFZ ended up as described in Minimum Wage Magic.

In spite of that this series as a whole is quite entertaining, with enough plot twists to keep you on your toes, and the romance isn't too annoying.

Now where's the sequel to Minimum Wage Magic? I need my DFZ fix!
