Down-on-her-luck wannabe-warrior falls in love. Add exo-suits, aliens, baddy evil to fall in love with, an empire, a love story, and Rachel Bach's writing skills.
And what you end up with is a great series.
Romance
Quite a few people complained about the 'shippy' character of the last book, but I thought it wasn't that bad as it was part of the plotline... (In Ann Aguire's 'Sirantha Jax' series the romance subplot appeared to be less essential to the story.)
Frankly I'm a little puzzled by the amount of romance in some of these military SF novels... Either all thouse gruff soldiers and spit'n'polished officers have a secret romantic streak, or more women read this stuff than they admit... Anyway, the 'Paradox' universe is an interesting one, and deserves more stories.
So... Yes. It's SF Romance. And you know what? I don't care, as the setting is great, and so is the writing. Obviously, Rachel Bach is none but Rachel Aaron, and her DFZ novels are to be enjoyed as well!
Titles
- Fortune's Pawn
- Honor's Knight
- Heaven's Queen
The Verdict
Great read. More!
