Planning Your Holidays / Vacations... and Avoiding the Crowds in Europe

Travel

Overpriced hotels and tourists everywhere. Vacations can be so stressful, especially during the summer months.

You may simply have no choice with kids and such, but what if you have the option to reschedule your summer holiday?

So... When? That would depend on...

a. Where you want to go

b. What you want to do there

c. All the other idiots having going to the same place at the same time

Out of (School Holiday) Season

To get better availability on hotels and bed and breakfasts, lower prices, and reduced numbers of bored kids -- tagging along with their stressed-out parents -- it's best to have a good idea of the school holidays and plan accordingly. However, finding a decent website with the right information isn't that easy.

I found a decent one on Feiertagskalender.ch, though unfortunately I couldn't make it show all regions and holidays simultaneously. I'm still looking for something better, but no luck thus far.

Links

If you have a better source please drop me a line, but these are the ones I've tried thus far -- and that offered some usable information.

Holiday calendar

I'm planning some (road) trips myself, so I've been looking at Europe only.

An early evaluation shows that May and June, and especially the last week of May and the first two weeks of June might be the sweet spot for those without (or trying to avoid 🤣) kids.

Be mindful of the German and French holidays, and the so called 'Black Saturdays' when it comes to natuonwide traffic jams...

Holiday destinations based on the month

This is very generic stuff disregarding school holidays... And no, I'm not making any money on providing these links. In fact, I'm not even sure how useful they are...
