Audiobook Review.
Trying to learn more about romance novels, I dipped my toes into the ‘Jane Yellowrock’ series. I think this is the second or third novel from the series. I’m still not sure what the target audience is for these: starving housewives, or males looking for a vampire killing, werewolf kicking biker chick?
Narration
Perfectly matching the writing. No complaints there.
Titles
- Skinwalker
- Blood Crossed
- Mercy Blade
- Raven Cursed
- ...
The series is a lot longer, but I haven't read the later installments yet 😇
The Verdict
I was expecting pure romance, but fortunately it wasn't.
It’s not entirely my fare, but I have to admit these are well written. Although they superficially resemble the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, they might actually be better (at least from a writing perspective).
So, okay stuff, if you like vampire killing, werewolf kicking biker chicks that jostle hunky males. The romance is acceptable, the gore isn't too bad, and no porn scenes, thank heavens!
I don't mind steamy, but don't need it every second paragraph -- some other authors overload their books. Also, I'm not a big fan of explicit sexual activity in a novel -- I'm in it for the story, not for the sex.
I think Faith Hunter got the levels about right for this type of story. And the biker chick does kick ass 😳
