Rachel Aaron - Part-Time Gods / Night Shift Dragons (2020)

Review.

Part-Time Gods and Night Shift Dragons are both nice, 'uppety' 'peppy reads'. Some action, some magic, some romance. These are parts 2 and 3 of the DFZ series, which started with Minimum Wage Magic, and take place in the same universe as the Heartstriker series.

More?

Opal Yong-ae, once the 'pet' of Korea's mighty dragon, has more or less fled to the DFZ, trying to build up her own life, outside of the meddling of her father. And whilst Opal is a human, her father is an ancient dragon.

Add to that your regular 'dark brooding man' Nik, shaded past, etc. and you have your typical fantasy romance but in this case, it's perfectly readable and well worth your time.

Tone

Book 3 Night Shift Dragons is in tone a little different from the two earlier volumes, but still very enjoyable. A few nice cameos, but I think you don't need to read the Heartstrikers series to enjoy this one. Still, it's great to see Amelia back 😇

Narration

I consumed the audiobook and the narrator was spot on for Opal, who's a trifle annoying herself, without going overboard.

Verdict

So yeah, keep 'm coming, Rachel!
