Ryk Brown – The Frontiers Saga

Audiobook Review

Ryk Brown appears to have become a quite popular self publishing author. I've sampled some of his wares... It's a bit fannish, a bit 'wannabe', to be honest. Some of the jokes and characters are okay, and do bring a smile on my face. The potholes though (especially the technobabble guffaws) are a bit of a let down.

Technobabble guffaws

Simple example: the story states no signal is faster than light, so the enemy uses faster than light communication drones. Warships can have those drones drop out of space by sending a signal to them... but a radio signal is slower than the drone it is supposed to reach... Euh...

Audiobook

'Found 'm as audio books, so I cannot comment on the editing. These stories are easy on the brain, thus can be handled during (severe 😒) traffic jams, but... as the series progresses I'm getting more and more annoyed. The Expanse and Celestia have been the two weakest thus far, and I think I can find better stuff to read or listen to.

Titles

  1. Aurora
  2. The Rings of Haven
  3. The Legend of Corinair
  4. Freedom's Dawn
  5. Rise of the Corinari
  6. Head of the Dragon
  7. The Expanse
  8. Celestia
  9. ...

The Verdict

Not super to start with, but getting worse over time. It's a nah, so skip.
