Viola Grace - The Covert Dragons

Audiobook Review

Once you have a Rakuten Kobo Plus subscription you're going to try to maximize its usage. Let's read / listen to tons of free books - as long as the subscription lasts - right? On top of that, I was investigating the typical romantasy concepts. Free and with a purpose, right?

Well... yeah. Right. Unfortunately, lots of the better stuff isn't free, and lots of the stuff included in Kobo Plus isn't very good... Will Viola Grace change my opinion?

The Covert Dragons

Viola Grace wrote a whole slew of (shorter) novels / novellas in this series, with titles such as Dragon Engaged, Dragon Undone, Dragon Mediated, and so forth. These are romantasy novels, with people shifting into dragons, and all following the 'fated mate' approach.

If it's your thing... then you can do better...

The Verdict

Meh. Because, frankly, even for a romantasy addict who buys into the whole fated mate concept (and that's not me), these books are lacking one thing: tension.

Nothing is scary. Nothing is imminent. Nothing is motivating.

I've tried four installments as audiobooks, and sampled a few more as ebooks (quickly scanning and skimming the boring parts, which was most) and the only advise I can give is: skip.
